The Research Development and Consultancy Services (RD & CS) Department is made up of Two (2) Divisions, sub-divided into several Sections and Units, as indicated in the department’s organogram.
It is saddled with the responsibility of carrying out the following, on behalf of the Centre:
Coordination of all research activities;
Documentation and Publication of Research findings;
Provision and Handling of all Consultancy Services;
Marketing of the Centre’s products and services; and
Provision of Library Services.
Coordination of all Research Activities
Planning, monitoring and execution of research projects/activities;
Preparation of work programmes and evaluation procedures;
Patenting of research breakthroughs.
Documentation and Publication of Research findings
Documents and publishes research findings/outcomes;
Prepares various technical reports;
Prepares the Centre’s monthly, quarterly and annual reports;
Prints Journals, Brochures, Pamphlets and other literature; ands
Publishes news stories on major events in the Centre.
Provision and Handling of Consultancy Services
Co-ordinates utilization of research results by relevant industrial sectors;
Organizes technical/professional meetings;
Negotiates with other government agencies, organized public sector establishments and the general public on areas of collaborations and other consultancy matters.
Marketing of the Centre’s Products and Services
Markets the Centre’s products and services;
Identifies technical requirements and challenges of industries, as well as arranges to proffer solutions to same;
Advises on new areas of developmental research, in line with customers’ needs;
Represents the Centre at Trade Fairs and Technical Exhibitions;
Co-ordinates activities relative to the Centre’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Provision of Library Services
The library provides library services to staff of the Centre, as well as to Research Fellows, staff and students of Tertiary Institutions regarding specific and current information (mostly in the form of books, periodicals, pamphlets and research papers).
National Metallurgical Development Centre [NMDC], Jos established by Act 50 of 1992, is a Research and Development organization with the mandate to carry out research and development activities for the Metallurgical and allied industries for the development of the nation’s solid minerals sector.
